QINGDAO, China, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Zhejiang Golden Bulls beat the Shanxi Loongs 91-82 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) playoffs here on Saturday to qualify for the quarterfinals, and were joined by the Beijing Royal Fighters who edged the Jilin Northeast Tigers 108-106 in a later match.

Cheng Shuaipeng scored eight points in a row after the tip-off to help Zhejiang establish a 22-18 lead in the first quarter.

Falling behind by 16 points in the second quarter, Shanxi managed to cut the deficit to nine points as the first half ran out.

Cheng then notched seven consecutive points in the third quarter to enlarge the winning margin to 17 points, and Zhejiang maintained an advantage of around 10 points until the end to move into the quarterfinals.

"Our victory relied on defense and rebounds. We still need to improve the details," said Liu Weiwei, coach of Zhejiang.

"Despite the loss, our players tried their best. We have little experience in the playoffs and I believe the young guys have learned a lot from this game," said Shanxi coach Wang Fei.

Jilin cut the deficit from 10 points to only one in the fourth quarter, before Kyle Fogg led Beijing to regain a 108-106 lead with 27 seconds on the clock.

Dai Huaibo missed a buzzer-beater to see the Royal Fighters seal their victory.

Fogg finished with a game-high 39 points and eight assists, Sun Yue collected 18 points, and Arnett Moultrie added 14 points and 16 rebounds.

Sean Hill bagged a team-high 21 points for Jilin, Jiang Yuxing had 19 points, and Li An notched 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The Golden Bulls will face the Liaoning Flying Leopards in the quarterfinals, while the Royal Fighters will take on the Xinjiang Flying Tigers. Enditem
