SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 307 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 52,512.

Of the new cases, five are imported cases, one is community cases and the rest are linked with the dormitories of foreign workers.

Of the new cases, 99 percent are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing. (Singapore-COVID-19)

KATHMANDU -- COVID-19 cases in Nepal surpassed 20,000-mark on Saturday, with 315 new cases reported in the day, Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population said.

Since early this week, Nepal has been witnessing resurgence in new cases of COVID-19.

Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson at the ministry, said at a regular press briefing that the COVID-19 cases had reached 20,086 in the country. (Nepal-COVID-19)

HONG KONG -- The postponement of the 2020 Legislative Council (LegCo) General Election of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is a timely move to protect the health and well-being of Hong Kong residents, Margaret Chan, former director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), said on Saturday.

"As the Emeritus Director-General of the World Health Organization and a member of the Hong Kong community, I strongly support the HKSAR government's timely and decisive decision to postpone the Legislative Council election on Sept. 6, 2020 to protect the health and well-being of the Hong Kong people," Chan said. HONG KONG -- Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Leung Chun-ying on Saturday lashed out at Hong Kong opposition for placing politics above public health as they criticized the postponement of the 2020 Legislative Council (LegCo) General Election of the HKSAR.

Hong Kong is being hit by the third round of COVID-19 outbreak, with the daily new cases exceeding 100 for over 10 days and the source of infection of many cases remaining unknown, Leung said on social media, noting that all large group events have been postponed or canceled as a result. HONG KONG -- The postponement of the 2020 Legislative Council (LegCo) General Election of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is a reasonable and legitimate decision, Tung Chee-hwa, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said on Saturday.

While expressing full understanding of and respect for the decision, Tung said that elections are an important manifestation of electors' exercise of political rights that are guaranteed by the Basic Law of the HKSAR, and the HKSAR government has the responsibility and obligation to ensure that elections are held in a fair, just, safe and orderly environment.
