BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.17 percent to end at 3,377.56 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.72 percent higher at 13,960.93 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices shrank to 1.2 trillion yuan (about 172.04 billion U.S. dollars) from 1.37 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Gainers outnumbered losers by 825 to 566 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,440 to 723 in Shenzhen.
Stocks related to integrated circuits led the gains, with shares of Cybrid Technologies Inc. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to 37.82 yuan.
Companies in the insurance and catering sectors were among the biggest losers.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.97 percent to close at 2,860.24 points Wednesday. Enditem
