SANAA, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were killed on Thursday when an "alleged Saudi-led coalition airstrike hit residential houses in Yemen's northern province of al-Jawf," the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported.

The victims included seven children, said the television, citing local residents and medics.

And 12 others, mostly women and children, were critically wounded in the airstrike on al-Ma'atirah area of "Khabb wa ash Sha'af" district, the television added.

There was no comment yet from the coalition over the alleged airstrike.

Last month, another coalition airstrike killed at least 25 people in al-Jawf and 10 others in the neighbouring province of Hajjah.

Yemen has been mired in civil war since late 2014, when the Iran-backed Houthi group seized control of much of the country's north and forced the Saudi-backed government of President Abd-Rabbuh Mansour Hadi out of the capital Sanaa.

The Saudi-led military coalition intervened in the Yemeni conflict in March 2015 to support Hadi's government.

The war has killed tens of thousands of people, mostly civilians, displaced over 3 million and pushed more than 20 million to the brink of famine. Enditem
