BEIJING, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Students in a remote prefecture of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region are being screened for congenital heart diseases by doctors sent from a city outside the region in a medical assistance program, the Chinese Red Cross Foundation said Friday.

The seven-day program, organized by the foundation and the 7th People's Hospital of Zhengzhou in central China's Henan Province, provides the screening for students in at least three counties in Ngari Prefecture.

On Thursday alone, 632 children were screened and 12 were diagnosed with congenital heart diseases.

It is the fifth such medical trip the Chinese Red Cross Foundation has organized to Tibet. Enditem
