BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's index of export container transport edged down in the past week, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.

The average China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) stood at 864.86, down 0.1 percent from a week earlier, according to the exchange.

The sub-index for the Australia/New Zealand service led the losses with a 2.5-percent decline from the previous week, followed by those for the Southeast Asia service and South America service, which slid 2.2 percent and 1.6 percent, respectively, from the previous week.

The sub-reading for the South Africa service led the increase with a week-on-week growth of 6 percent, followed by that for West East Africa route, which rose 1.4 percent from last week.

The CCFI tracks spot and contractual freight rates from Chinese container ports for 12 shipping routes across the globe, based on data from 22 international carriers.

The index was set at 1,000 on Jan. 1, 1998. Enditem
