BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

GRAPHENE COMPOSITES

Chinese researchers have developed a new preparation method of hybrid graphene composites by introducing new electrochemical techniques, according to the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The new preparation method is capable of producing high-performance graphene composites at a low cost. It is environmentally friendly and suitable for large-scale industrial production.

EARTHWORM FOR SOIL REMEDIATION

Chinese researchers have found that earthworms can get rid of 30 percent of cadmium content in soils.

Researchers from the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University found that earthworms, alone or combined with an organic compound called EDTA and bean dregs, are feasible for the remediation of cadmium-contaminated soil.

AI TECHNOLOGY FOR ANIMALS

Chinese researchers have developed an artificial intelligence (AI) system to identify individual primates, offering help in animal research and conservation.

A team of researchers from Northwest University, comprising zoology and computer science experts, designed a deep neural network for automated face detection and individual identification of primates and other species. The AI-system, named Tri-AI, can rapidly detect and identify individual animals from videos and images. It is applicable to multiple species and enables night-time data analysis.
