BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- China's courier sector maintained robust growth during the first seven months of the year on the back of a rapidly expanding rural market, according to the State Post Bureau.

The country's express delivery firms handled 40.82 billion parcels during the period, up 23.66 percent from the previous year, surpassing the total volume of 40.06 billion pieces in the full year of 2017. Their business revenues grew 13.53 percent year on year to 454.71 billion yuan (65.5 billion U.S. dollars).

The express delivery industry has been rapidly expanding in the country's vast rural stretches, buoyed by the increasing popularity of e-commerce and the improvement in delivery infrastructure.

Express delivery firms collected and delivered over 18 billion parcels in rural areas during the period, and the growth of rural collection volume was over 20 percentage points higher than that in cities. Enditem
