Shanghai reports 8 new imported COVID-19 cases

SHANGHAI, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai reported eight imported COVID-19 cases and no domestically transmitted cases on Thursday, the municipal health commission said Friday.

Seven of the patients were Chinese nationals with six of them on the same Sept. 9 flight from the Philippines to Shanghai Pudong International Airport. They started to show symptoms while under quarantine. The other Chinese patient was flying from Zambia, who showed symptoms upon arriving at the airport on Monday.

The final patient was a Beninian national who arrived at the airport on Monday and began to show symptoms during quarantine.

All of the patients have been sent for treatment in designated hospitals. A total of 196 close contacts have been put under quarantine.

As of Thursday, Shanghai had reported 595 confirmed imported cases and 342 locally transmitted cases. Enditem
