NINGBO, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The China Ningbo Containerized Freight Index (NCFI) reported a surge in freight sub-index for the east South America routes.
The NCFI, reflecting freight rate changes of 21 routes departing from the Ningbo-Zhoushan port, stood at 1,224.3 points Friday, up 14.3 percent compared with last week.
The sub-reading for the east coast of South America was 1,802.3 points, up 36.5 percent from last week.
The huge rise in freight rates was driven by a rapid rise in transportation demand, according to the Ningbo Shipping Exchange.
Reported every Friday (except Chinese holidays), the NCFI was first published in September 2013. Enditem
