BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The following are the highlights of China's science news from the past week:

STRONGEST MAGNETIC FIELD

Using China's Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope, a team of scientists has discovered the strongest magnetic field ever observed in the universe.

The team calculated that the magnetic field would be as high as 1 billion Tesla, which is tens of millions of times stronger than what can be generated in any laboratory on Earth.

AEROSOL TRANSPORT

Researchers have found that the loss of Arctic sea ice intensified the transport of pollutants, such as aerosols, to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

The loss of sea ice in the Arctic, owing to global warming, influences atmospheric circulation. It eventually results in the intensified transport of aerosols and other pollutants toward the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, thus accelerating the melting of plateau glaciers.

EARLY IRON AGE SITE

Chinese archaeologists have found an early Iron Age site in northeast China's Jilin Province.

They discovered more than 10 housing sites and over 500 pieces of relics including pottery, stoneware and iron pipes.

The discovery provided important materials for the study of the production and lifestyle of residents in eastern Jilin in prehistoric times, as well as the study of the iron age culture in the region. Enditem
