GUANGZHOU, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (Baiyunport) in south China's Guangdong Province has reported a sustainable recovery in domestic air passenger throughput, according to the airport.

Baiyunport led the country in domestic passenger flow and flight movements in July and August amid the country's remarkable air travel recovery, said a source of the airport.

In August, the airport served 4.61 million passengers, up 12.6 percent from July. The volume indicated that its domestic passenger throughput has rebounded to the level before the epidemic outbreak.

Baiyunport handled more than 4.09 million passengers in July, up 31.9 percent from June.

Amid the reviving air travel, Baiyunport has seen a significant increase in the number of domestic travelers thanks to China's effective anti-epidemic measures.

The airport has been striving to help reopen suspended routes and enhance those connecting popular destinations in a bid to achieve stable air travel recovery, said the airport source.

Baiyunport has seen six consecutive months of stable increase in all major airport performance indices since March amid the nationwide work and travel resumption.

Together with airlines, the mega airport has been endeavoring to sustain the air passenger and freight transport growth with effective measures, such as using passenger aircraft for cargo missions and providing charter flight services.

It also promoted diversified and innovative travel products to boost tourism and air transport.

In August, Baiyunport applied "One ID" facial-recognition technology to enhance passenger security and streamline the flying experience via smart tech.

It has also introduced multiple innovative facilities into the airport, such as infrared sensing elevator buttons, luggage sterilizers and automatic disinfection robots, helping to enhance passengers' confidence in air travel.

All these moves have contributed to improving the convenience and efficiency of Baiyunport, one of China's leading air hubs and a major player in Guangdong's civil aviation industry, according to the airport. Enditem
