BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Here are the highlights of China's health news from the past week:

-- China to screen elderly communities for Alzheimer's disease

Chinese health authorities will screen elderly communities for Alzheimer's disease and provide interventions that may prevent or slow the progression of the disease.

Community-level healthcare institutions will conduct cognitive-function assessments on the elderly within their jurisdictions, while nursing homes will carry out assessments on their own residents.

-- China CDC suggests key populations should be the first to take flu vaccines

Health professionals, staff and vulnerable individuals in venues with gatherings of people, including elderly care centers, nursing and welfare homes, are advised to take flu vaccines on a priority basis.

They are among the four key populations who, according to suggestions from the latest technical guideline for influenza vaccination issued by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) amid the COVID-19 epidemic, should be the first to take flu vaccines.

-- China updates COVID-19 prevention, control guidelines

China's National Health Commission has released the latest (seventh) version of COVID-19 prevention and control guidelines, making revisions to contents such as COVID-19 etiological and epidemiological features, as well as epidemic monitoring and handling.

Stressing that the disease is mainly transmitted via respiratory droplets and close contact, the latest version said there are risks of infection when people are exposed to contaminated objects or environments under certain conditions.

-- China to strengthen measures preventing COVID-19 resurgence

China will launch an inspection in 17 provincial-level regions to ensure measures are in place to prevent COVID-19 resurgences in autumn and winter.

The inspection will focus on the implementation of epidemic prevention measures at border ports, schools, communities, and hospitals. Enditem
