1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close lower Monday

BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.63 percent, at 3,316.94 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.72 percent lower at 13,149.5 points.

The combined turnover of the two bourses shrank to 755.08 billion yuan (about 111.71 billion U.S. dollars) from 835.69 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 868 to 512 on the Shanghai bourse, and by 1,346 to 833 on the Shenzhen stock exchange.

Shares in the digital currency as well as the military and national defense industries outperformed the market, with Keda Group Co., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to close at 5.61 yuan.

Shares in the liquor and aviation sectors led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.03 percent to close at 2,569.22 points Monday. Enditem
