QINGDAO, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- The 2020 East Asia Marine Expo opened Tuesday in Qingdao, a coastal city of east China's Shandong Province, convening more than 770 companies and institutes from over 70 countries and regions.

More than 50,000 different exhibits ranging from ocean engineering, offshore oil and gas exploration, seabed exploration, deep-sea aquaculture and scientific research equipment, to scientific achievements in marine surveying and mapping as well as fishery products have been put on show at the six-day expo, which boasts 60,000 square meters of exhibition area.

Swiss industrial firm ABB displayed its electronic contactor and switch for marine engineering equipment.

"We look forward to seeing more potential customers at the expo," said Huang Ling with the firm.

The Ministry of Natural Resources set up models of China's manned submersible Jiaolong and polar icebreaker Xuelong at the expo, introducing the deep-sea technology to visitors.

Huawei, China's leading tech company, exhibited their "Huawei Cloud," which can help enterprises and institutes apply artificial intelligence technology.

The organizers have provided an online platform for the expo so as to reduce the number of visitors on site and prevent cross infections amid the COVID-19 epidemic.

The expo is a major activity of the 2020 East Asia Marine Cooperation Platform Qingdao Forum, which is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Shandong provincial government. Enditem
