Weekly review of China's social and economic developments amid COVID-19 control

BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- China is powering ahead in bringing business and life back on track, with regular COVID-19 control measures in place. The following are the latest facts and figures for the week:

-- The 8th China (Mianyang) Science and Technology City International High-Tech Expo commenced on Sept. 21 in the city of Mianyang, southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The four-day expo saw 582 high-tech companies and institutes, bringing products from the fields of electronic information, equipment manufacturing, and artificial intelligence, among others.

-- The Seventh Wuhan International Drama Season kicked off on Sept. 22 in the central Chinese city, once hit hard by the COVID-19 epidemic.

The three-month event will showcase 33 drama works from eight countries, including China, Britain, France, and Russia. It will also feature modern drama, children's plays, puppetry, concerts, and other varieties.

-- The China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair 2020 kicked off on Sept. 23 in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, with more than 3,000 innovation and start-up achievements from home and abroad exhibited.

The three-day event focused on artificial intelligence, intelligent manufacturing, energy conservation, new materials, aerospace, and other advanced technologies and products.

-- The 6th China-Japan-Korea Industries Expo kicked off on Friday in Weifang, east China's Shandong Province, with over 1,000 enterprises participating in the event both online and offline.

The three-day event covered exhibitions of intelligent manufacturing, quality living, and international food.

-- Workers have completed building the main structure of a new expressway linking Beijing and Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The Beijing-Xinjiang Expressway is the second major expressway connecting Xinjiang and other areas, following the Lianyungang-Horgos Expressway. It is expected to begin operation in phases starting at the end of this year.

-- The China Tianjin International Fair for Investment and Trade will open online in north China's Tianjin Municipality on Oct. 12, focusing on cooperation and innovation, the organizing committee said Friday.

The fair, which will last until Oct. 16, is held by the Ministry of Commerce, Tianjin Municipal People's Government, All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and China General Chamber of Commerce. Enditem
