BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- In order to protect natural resources and reduce the ecological disturbances caused by venue construction, Beijing Winter Olympics has undertaken ecological restoration projects since the beginning of construction.

According to the Beijing Major Projects Construction Headquarters Office on Monday, at present, the ecological restoration project in the Yanqing competition zone has seen 67 percent of the project completed and is expected to be completed by next summer.

The ecological restoration project of the Yanqing competition zone consists of three parts: ecological restoration of the National Sliding Center, ecological restoration of municipal supporting infrastructure in the competition zone, and ecological restoration of the National Alpine Skiing Center which accounts for half of the ecological restoration area of the competition zone and has a heavy workload and high degree of difficulty.

The topsoil stripping and collection are carried out before the ecological restoration work because the topsoil is rich in organic matter and microbial flora which is helpful for plant growth.

When carrying out ecological restoration, the topsoil is returned to the restoration area, accelerating the recovery of the local ecosystem.

When taking a cable car to the starting area of the National Alpine Skiing Center, some 2,198 meters above sea level, it can be seen that the overall vegetation level of the competition area is good and the local ecology is diverse. Enditem
