SUZHOU, China, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Thanks to a header from defender Yuan Mincheng, Chongqing Lifan edged Shanghai SIPG 1-0 in the 14th round of the Chinese Super League (CSL) here on Monday.

In the 14th minute, Chongqing striker Feng Jin was knocked down by Shanghai defender Zhang Wei when he tried to make a breakthrough from the left side. Feng was rewarded with a penalty at first, but the referee decided to give Zhang a red card instead after checking the VAR.

Chongqing broke the deadlock in the 37th minute. After receiving a free kick from midfielder Huang Xiyang, Marcelo Cirino flicked a header to Yuan, who converted another header to make it 1-0. The linesman rose his flag immediately for offside, but the referee judged the goal was valid with the assist of the VAR.

In the 85th minute, Feng fell to the ground again in the box after a close contact with Shanghai defender Shi Ke, but the referee did not give a penalty judging that Feng tripped himself.

Despite the loss, Shanghai is still secure atop the Suzhou division.

"We accomplished our goal in the first stage. It is a good result to rank first. We will have a good rest to face the second stage," said Shanghai goalkeeper Chen Wei after the game. Enditem
