BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

ANTARCTIC KRILL

An international team of researchers has reported that Antarctic krill, a key species in the Southern Ocean food web, has taken refuges from climate change that degraded its original habitat.

Based on data from Chinese icebreaker Xuelong and other databases, the researchers reported in the journal Limnology and Oceanography that due to ocean warming and ice loss, the original habitat of Antarctic krill supports fewer krill than before, but the species has been seeking refuges in other regions which probably will hold more krill than they did a century ago.

NEW MASS EXTINCTION

Researchers from China and Britain have found evidence of a new mass extinction event which allowed dinosaurs to dominate the earth.

The newly identified mass extinction named the Carnian Pluvial Episode took place around 234 million to 232 million years ago and marked the beginning of modern ecosystems.

OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER

Chinese researchers have found that a similar mechanism may lead to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) behaviors both in humans and dogs.

The researchers analyzed the genetic sequence of 10 dogs presenting circling behavior and 10 normal dogs from each breed, and identified 11 candidate genes related to OCD-like behaviors. Further analysis showed these dog genes overlap significantly with genes identified in human OCD studies. Enditem
