1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close higher Friday

BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.68 percent at 3,272.08 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.96 percent higher at 13,289.26 points.

The combined turnover of the two bourses expanded to 711.3 billion yuan (about 104.9 billion U.S. dollars) from 540 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most stocks rose Friday, with gainers outnumbering losers by 1,351 to 90 at the Shanghai bourse, and by 2,156 to 100 in Shenzhen.

Companies in the tourism and hotel and catering sectors led the losses.

Shares related to photovoltaics and photoresist materials bucked the downward trend, with Luoyang Glass Company Limited climbing 10.04 percent to 15.46 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 3.81 percent to close at 2,672.93 points Friday. Enditem
