China Ningbo Containerized Freight Index (U.S. routes) rises sharply in September

NINGBO, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- The China Ningbo Containerized Freight Index (NCFI) reported a significant rise in freight indices in the U.S. routes.

The NCFI, reflecting freight rate changes of 21 routes departing from the Ningbo-Zhoushan port, stood at 1,167.8 points in September, up 28.5 percent compared with last month.

The sub-readings for the east and west coasts of the United States quoted 1,654.3 points and 2,348.2 points, up 19.9 percent and 14.8 percent from last month respectively, and up 94.0 percent and 176.6 percent compared with the same period of last year.

According to the Ningbo Shipping Exchange, the freight rates are rising to a high level, with the freight rates on the routes to the east and west coast of the United States rising to 3,800 U.S. dollars/FEU and 4,500 U.S. dollars/FEU respectively in early September.
