BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Around 150 youths from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan gathered in Beijing Friday for the opening of this year's cross-Strait youth exchange and cooperation summit.

A parallel session attended by 150 Taiwan youths was held in the city of Kaohsiung in Taiwan.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Long Mingbiao, deputy head of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said youths have always been a dynamic force driving the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.

Former chairperson of the Chinese Kuomintang party Hung Hsiu-chu delivered a speech via video link, calling on youths across the Taiwan Strait to join hands to create a bright future for the two sides.

Five Taiwan youth representatives shared their experiences of studying and starting a career on the mainland.

The event also saw the recruitment of Taiwan youths by a number of Beijing-based tech companies. Enditem
