BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

COVID-19 VACCINE

A total of 60,000 volunteers have received Chinese COVID-19 vaccines during phase-3 clinical trials, and no severe side effects have been reported, Chinese officials said Tuesday.

Studies have shown that the development of COVID-19 vaccines has not been affected by how the virus has mutated.

China's total annual production capacity of COVID-19 vaccines will likely exceed 610 million doses by the end of the year.

SPACE DISCOVERY

An international study has revealed how Arrokoth, the most distant object ever visited by a man-made probe, takes the bizarre shape of a flattened snowman.

Researchers from the Purple Mountain Observatory under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Germany, and the Planetary Science Institute in the United States investigated how the shape came to be, finding that it may have been gradually boiled away by the heat of the sun in a time scale of about 1 to 100 million years.

PARKINSON'S DISEASE

Researchers from Tsinghua University and Harvard University have revealed the key mechanism behind deep brain stimulation used to treat Parkisnson's disease. The find can help new therapeutic plans and postoperative management. Enditem
