NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 7,651,107 as 54,044 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, according to the data released by the federal health ministry on Wednesday.

HONG KONG -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 jolted 183 km off Neiafu, Tonga, at 00:22:33 GMT on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported 25 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, 23 of which are imported cases caught at the border, and two are cases linked to the port worker reported on Sunday, who are workplace contacts.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways Limited Wednesday announced to eliminate about 8,500 job positions, which accounts for around 24 percent of the group's established headcount of 35,000.

Of the 8,500 positions, about 5,300 Hong Kong-based employees will be made redundant in the coming weeks, and approximately 600 employees based outside of Hong Kong possibly being affected subject to local regulatory requirements. (Hong Kong-Employees) Enditem
