1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close lower on Wednesday

BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.09 percent to 3,325.02 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1 percent lower at 13,467.91 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 706.27 billion yuan (about 105.76 billion U.S. dollars), an increase from 667.39 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers 1,091 to 324 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,782 to 466 in Shenzhen.

Companies related to photoresist and semi-conductors led losses.

Bucking the downward trend, firms in the quantum technology sector notched solid gains, with shares of Shanghai Hongda New Material Co., Ltd. surging 6.37 percent to close at 7.35 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of fast-growing enterprises, lost 1.46 percent to close at 2,700.53 points on Wednesday. Enditem
