DALIAN, China, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tianjin Teda forced a 1-1 draw with Shenzhen FC in the 16th round of the Chinese Super League (CSL) here on Wednesday, succeeding in escaping relegation.

With everyone eager to avoid relegation, the first half saw increasingly tense confrontations from both sides, especially after Shenzhen forward Harold Preciado failed to score in the 16th minute and Tianjin defender Rong Hao's long shot was parried in the next minute.

In the 22nd minute, forward John Mary's header was declared offside, but he still helped Shenzhen take the lead with a right-foot follow shot five minutes later. Midfielder Zhang Yuan was given a yellow card for a foul on Tianjin's forward Frank Acheampong.

In the second half, Tianjin made a fierce counte-attack to level the score. Although Rong Hao's volley was failed in the 59th minute, the German defender Felix Bastians helped Tianjin equalize with a follow-up shot after receiving a distant free kick by Uzbekistani midfielder Odil Akhmedov in the 75th minute.
