BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.38 percent to 3,312.5 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.53 percent lower at 13,396.18 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 663.7 billion yuan (about 99.65 billion U.S. dollars), down from 706.27 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 920 to 447 on the Shanghai bourse and by 1,313 to 878 in Shenzhen.

Bucking the downward trend, stocks related to third-generation semiconductors climbed, lifted by news that the country had vowed to boost the development of the sector during its 14th Five-year Plan period.

Xi'an Peri Power Semiconductor Converting Technology Co., Ltd. surged 7.93 percent to 24.24 yuan per share. Shares of Wuxi NCE Power Co., Ltd. rose by the daily limit of 10 percent to 90 yuan.
