TAIYUAN, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The gross domestic product (GDP) of north China's Shanxi Province totaled around 1.25 trillion yuan (about 187 billion U.S. dollars) in the first three quarters of this year, up 1.3 percent year on year, the provincial statistical bureau said Thursday.

Shanxi's fixed-asset investment maintained a sound upward momentum since March. In the January-September period, it registered a 9.5-percent growth year on year, 8.7 percentage points higher than the national figure, said Wei Yongjie, deputy director of the bureau.

The value-added industrial output, an important economic indicator, went up 3 percent year on year during the period in Shanxi, 1.8 percentage points faster than the national growth rate.

The industrial output is used to measure the activity of designated large enterprises with an annual business turnover of at least 20 million yuan.

In terms of emerging industries, the output of major telecommunications equipment manufacturers grew by 7.9 percent year on year, while that of the new energy equipment manufacturers rose 5 percent. Enditem
