DUBAI, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) launched an aid package worth 556.5 million U.S. dollars to support Sudan's financial, economic, health, education, nutrition and agriculture sectors, the official WAM news agency reported on Monday.
"The aid was part of an overall Emirati grant worth 1.5 billion dollars to fulfill the basic needs of the Sudanese people," ADFD Director-General Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi told WAM in statements.
In April 2019, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) pledged to provide Sudan with an economic aid package to achieve financial and economic stability and support its health, education, nutrition and agricultural sectors.
Under this framework, the UAE, represented by the ADFD, deposited 250 million dollars in the Central Bank of Sudan and supported the Sudanese government's budget with 119.8 million dollars. The fund also sent 540,000 tonnes of wheat worth 144.7 million dollars, 136 tonnes of medicine and medical supplies worth 19.75 million dollars, and school supplies worth 11.4 million dollars.
