Canon helps employees reverse negative feelings with smile recognition

BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Canon (China) Co., Ltd. has launched an intelligent clock-in and access-control system based on "smile recognition" to help its employees eliminate negative feelings amid the COVID-19 epidemic.

Unlike traditional attendance systems using cards, fingerprints or codes, the new system, namely "Smart Workspace Solution," allows employees to punch in and out, and have their body temperature taken, by scanning their bright smiles, according to the Japanese optical and lithography equipment manufacturer.

The employees can also scan their smiling faces to make conference-room reservations and boot a printer.

The company said it hopes that the new system will help its employees maintain good health and remain in a good mood amid the COVID-19 epidemic, as well as improving work efficiency. Enditem
