BAOJI, China, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Olympic gold medalist Chen Long helped Fujian beat Shanghai 4-1 in the men's group event of the ongoing 2020 Chinese Badminton Championships here on Friday.

With the victory, Fujian topped Group B to reach the quarterfinals.

Just as what he did on Thursday, the world No. 5 smashed his rival Chen Jiajun 21-9, 21-8 in the opening men's singles tie.

Under the veteran's encouragement, Ou Xuanyi/He Jiting and Weng Hongyang clinched victories in the men's doubles, men's singles respectively, contributing three points to Fujian and helping the team see off Shanghai team 4-1 in the last round group match.

Joining Fujian in the quarterfinals of the men's team event are Jiangsu, Liaoning, Guangdong, Hunan, Sichuan and two teams from Zhejiang.

In women's team event, world champion Huang Yaqiong and her young partner Lv Rouhao of Zhejiang defeated Beijing's Wang Tingge/Cao Tongwei 23-21, 21-14 in the doubles as Zhejiang took a 4-1 victory.

"Actually, we didn't cooperate very well in the game because it is the first time we compete as a pair," Huang told Xinhua after her match.

"My younger sister was a little bit nervous in our first game, I will help her adjust the situation before the upcoming elimination session," she added.

Despite the defeat, Beijing still advanced to the last eight. Hunan, Jiangsu, Fujian, Hubei, Shanghai and Sichuan also progressed to the quarterfinals.

The tournament ends on November 10. Enditem
