SHANGHAI, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The World Laureates Community was unveiled at the ongoing 3rd World Laureates Forum that kicked off on Friday in Shanghai, bringing together the world's top scientists and R&D resources.

Located in the Lingang Area, a new section of the Shanghai pilot free trade zone, the community, as a significant conduit for Lingang's international collaborative innovation function, has seen its planned area expanding sevenfold to 250 hectares.

Headquarters of international organizations and top scientists' innovation laboratories are expected to settle in the community, focusing on biomedicine, artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, new energy and materials, quantum science, and others at the sci-tech frontier, according to Zhang Tong with the management committee of Lingang Area.

The community will also have residential facilities, hospitals, and schools, Zhang added.

An unveiling ceremony of the World Laureates Development Foundation took place on the same day at the forum. The foundation aims to support scientific exchanges, youth development, technology transformation, and science education.

Roger Kornberg, chairman of the World Laureates Association, who won the 2006 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, said the association would deepen all-round cooperation with Shanghai and invite global scientists to the city to do cutting-edge research.

This year's World Laureates Forum has brought together more than 300 scientists, including 61 Nobel Prize laureates, who will participate through webinars and offline meetings in Shanghai.

The three-day event will feature forums, master classes, 130 speeches, and over 70 summits in basic sciences as well as summits on applied technologies. Enditem
