ZHUJI, China, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Shanghai Sharks breezed past the Fujian Sturgeons 117-93 on Sunday, avoiding a second straight loss in the ongoing Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league.

Shanghai center Zong Zan made nine of his 11 shooting attempts for 26 points. Sharp shooter Jimmer Fredette came off the bench to contribute 23 points.

"We played as a team tonight," said Zong. "The team had a lot of injuries from the previous games, but we are getting better."

Shanghai had a quick start, closing the first period 35-22. Fujian, led by star shooter Chen Linjian, fought hard to get back into the game. Chen made consecutive three-pointers to cut the deficit to 10 by the half-time whistle.

Shanghai was rejuvenated in the second half. Zong Zan started to dominate the paint and Shanghai broadened the gap again. Fujian played without starting center Wang Zhelin, seeing Shanghai seal the victory with a 24-point advantage.

Chen had 28 points for Fujian, and Yu Changchun added 17.

"The experience was a key factor tonight," said Fujian head coach Nenad Vucinic. "Our young guys haven't got much CBA experience, and we are also smaller in size." Enditem
