BEIJING, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

JET-POWERED FLYING BOARD

China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, the country's leading rocket maker, has developed a jet-powered flying board that can reach an altitude of 1 km with a human on top.

The academy released photos of the board-shaped flying machine on its WeChat account Tuesday, saying it is the first of its kind in China and can be used for aerial work, firefighting, disaster relief, search and rescue. It can also function as an unmanned goods delivery platform for emergencies.

PATENT APPLICATION

The number of invention patent applications on the Chinese mainland exceeded 1.23 million during the first ten months of 2020, up by 11.2 percent year on year, according to the National Intellectual Property Administration (NIPA).

China also saw 55,000 applications filed and accepted via the World Intellectual Property Organization's Patent Cooperation Treaty System during the 10-month period, Shen Changyu, head of NIPA, said at the opening ceremony of the 12th China International Patent Fair.

CRUISE SHIP ASSEMBLY

China's first domestically built large cruise ship is expected to be delivered in 2023, according to the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited.

The vista-class cruise ship will be 323.6 meters long and 37.2 meters wide, and will be able to accommodate 5,246 passengers. New equipment and technologies such as laser cutting and robot welding machines have been used in the shipbuilding process, and the application of the industrial Internet of Things has facilitated its intelligent management.
