GUANGZHOU, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Fabio Cannavaro apologized to the Guangzhou Evergrande fans for losing the Chinese Super League title as his team departed to Doha for the Asian Champions League on Wednesday.

Guangzhou Evergrande, eight-time champions, fell short of their supporters' expectation as they lost to Jiangsu Suning 2-1 in the Chinese top flight title decider in Suzhou last Thursday.

"I know many of you went to Suzhou to watch the decider, and it is a great regret that we failed to bring the trophy back," the 47-year-old Italian told a gathering of fans at the Guangzhou Baiyun airport.

"But we should have won the title with what we did this season. We have the credentials," he said through an interpreter. Enditem
