Beijing, Liaoning win tough games in China women's volleyball league

JIANGMEN, China, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Beijing defeated a struggling Shandong 3-1 (27-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-21) while Liaoning fought hard to overcome Fujian 3-2 (25-22, 25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 16-14) in the Chinese women's volleyball league here on Wednesday.

Beijing burst to a 4-0 run before Shandong fought back to lead by 17-16. Shandong seemed to approach victory smoothly after that, but Beijing's Jin Ye took four points to deny it.

Both sides exchanged leads spike for spike in the second half until they tied at 14-14. Beijing then jumped to a four-point lead to widen the gap. Although Sun Ruhan grabbed two points in a row, Beijing still took the set.

Shandong's Jin Ye enhanced his block in the third set while Beijing's own fault rose, allowing Liaoning to bring one set back.

The fourth set saw Shandong jump to a 8-2 lead quickly, but Beijing recovered from Jin Ye's spikes and leveled the score at 12-12. Both sides' scores climbed until Beijing staged a 5-1 run to secure the lead.

Jin Ye got a game high 24 points, while Shandong's Song Meili donated her team's best 16 points.

Liaoning won the first and second sets with small margins, but Fujian got the upper hand in the next two sets, which dragged the game into a decider.

Although Fujian saved game point twice in the fifth set, they still lost it.

Liaoning's Duan Fang got a game high 34 points while Fujian's Zheng Yixin earned for her team 28 points.

Other games saw Shanghai defeated Yunnan 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-23), Guangdong beat Henan 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 28-26, 25-16), Tianjin thrashed Hebei 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-15), and Jiangsu eased past Sichuan 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-15). Enditem
