BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- He Ping, president and editor-in-chief of Xinhua News Agency, and Carlos Miguel Pereira, Cuban ambassador to China, pledged to enhance media cooperation during their meeting in Beijing Thursday.

He said this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Cuba as well as the 60th anniversary of cooperation between Xinhua News Agency and Cuban media.

He said Xinhua will continue to be a recorder of the two countries' sincere friendship, a promoter of mutually beneficial cooperation, and a disseminator of the two nations' reform and development partnership.

"Xinhua is ready to work with the Cuban media to write a new chapter of China-Cuba friendship and cooperation," he said.

Noting that Xinhua plays an important role in recording and promoting the development of Cuba-China relations, Pereira expressed the hope that Xinhua will further expand its coverage of Cuba's social and cultural activities. He added that he is willing to help promote exchanges and cooperation between Cuban media and Chinese media including Xinhua.

Pereira presented Xinhua with an honorary certificate for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Cuba and China, thanking the news agency for its contribution to the development of bilateral relations. Enditem
