TIANJIN, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Four new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were confirmed in north China's Tianjin Municipality on early Friday, local authorities said.

Among the four patients, three are residents from the Kanhaixuan residential community in Tianjin, while another one is a community staff, according to the city's center for disease control and prevention.

They tested negative for coronavirus on Nov. 10 in a nucleic acid test after an asymptomatic carrier was found in the community. But the results turned positive Thursday night in a follow-up test.

They were diagnosed as confirmed cases on early Friday after being transferred to a designated hospital.

The Kanhaixuan community was classified as a high-risk area for COVID-19 starting from 2 a.m. Friday, said Gu Qing, deputy director of Tianjin municipal health commission.

Since Nov. 10, a total of five confirmed locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and three asymptomatic carriers have been reported in the community.

The community is home to around 1,900 residents, and they have been put under concentrated quarantine, said Gu, adding that an epidemiological investigation is underway.

The enterprises and organizations where the community residents work are conducting nucleic acid tests on all employees, Gu said. Enditem
