1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares close higher

BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.44 percent to 3,377.73 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.54 percent higher at 13,852.42 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices shrank to 750.94 billion yuan (about 114.15 billion U.S. dollars) from 777.9 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers 852 to 527 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,173 to 1,025 in Shenzhen.

Shares in the military industry and automobile sectors led the gains, with the shares of Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. rising by the daily limit of 10 percent to 14.29 yuan apiece.

Shares of firms related to the beverage and semiconductor industries led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of fast-growing enterprises, gained 0.83 percent to close at 2,667.09 points on Friday. Enditem
