SHIJIAZHUANG, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's benchmark power coal price rose slightly during the past week.
The Bohai-Rim Steam-Coal Price Index (BSPI), a gauge of coal prices in north China's major ports, stood at 570 yuan (about 86.9 U.S. dollars) per tonne Wednesday, a rise of 4 yuan week on week, according to Qinhuangdao Ocean Shipping Coal Trading Market Co. Ltd.
Analysts said the coastal coal prices continued to rise as rain and snow hit many areas and widespread cooling spurred strong demand for coal for heating. In addition, some coal mines have basically achieved their annual production targets, and production has gradually reduced or stopped, with coal supply in main producing areas becoming increasingly tight.
Released by the Qinhuangdao Ocean Shipping Coal Trading Market Co. Ltd. every Wednesday, the BSPI is a leading indicator of China's coal prices. Enditem
