HANGZHOU, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in the city of Yuhuan, east China's Zhejiang Province, said Thursday that a sample of imported pork from a local market had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The sample was taken from a batch of frozen pork imported from Brazil. The meat entered China through Yangshan Port in Shanghai on Sept. 28, according to a blockchain-powered tracing system for cold-chain foods.

The sample, collected from a pork stall in a market in Yuhuan, tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday night, the Yuhuan municipal disease control and prevention center said.

Local authorities have sealed the meat, disinfected the market and surrounding areas, and quarantined 55 personnel who came in direct contact with the pork.

Nucleic acid test results of all the close contacts were negative. Thirty food and environmental samples taken from the market also tested negative.

China has stepped up efforts to block COVID-19 through imported food. The Ministry of Transport released a guideline in mid-November to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 through cold-chain foods imported via road and water.

The State Council's joint prevention and control mechanism against COVID-19 has also unveiled a plan for full-chain, closed-loop, traceable management of imported cold-chain foods. Enditem
