BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

BASIC RESEARCH

Premier Li Keqiang on Monday called for boosting basic research and application innovation to make China a country of innovators.

He asked for more efforts in strengthening basic research and its application, and making research results better serve the economy and support the country's high-quality development.

MILLET DISCOVERY

Archaeologists have discovered 33 carbonized millet grains dating back 5,300 to 5,600 years at a site in central China, local authorities said on Monday.

The millet grains, found at the Qujialing site in central China's Hubei Province, are the earliest of its kind ever unearthed in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. The discovery provided new evidence that dryland farming was introduced from northern China to the region during the Neolithic period.

QINGHAI-TIBET PLATEAU DATA

A Chinese institute has launched a dataset for hourly observations of integrated land-atmosphere interaction on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

DRIVERLESS ROAD TESTS
