CAIRO, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Egypt condemned on Monday the "terrorist" attack by an explosive-laden boat on an oil tanker anchored in Saudi Arabia's Red Sea port city of Jeddah.

"Egypt reiterates its ... rejection of any terrorist sabotage acts targeting the territorial waters and vital installations of Saudi Arabia," the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Such acts pose a threat to the security and stability of the kingdom, the security and freedom of navigation and the international trade, the ministry statement added.

Egypt supports Saudi Arabia's endeavors aimed at countering all forms of terrorism, it noted.

Earlier in the day, the Saudi Press Agency reported that a fuel transport ship, anchored in the fuel terminal in Jeddah, was attacked by an explosive-laden boat, resulting in a small fire which was later extinguished.

No groups have claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Saudi Arabia has experienced a succession of cross-border attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels since the Yemeni civil war broke out in 2014.

In late 2014, the Iran-backed Houthis seized control of much of Yemen's north and forced the internationally-recognized government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi out of the capital Sanaa.

A Saudi-led military coalition intervened in the Yemeni conflict in early 2015 to support Hadi's government. Enditem
