GUANGZHOU, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Construction work has begun on PepsiCo's food production base in Guangdong Province, its first food factory established in south China, said the company.

With a construction area of about 24,000 square meters, the new factory is located in the high-tech industrial park in Foshan City, Guangdong, covering an area of 5.3 hectares.

The factory is equipped with one production line for sliced potato chips and two production lines for canned potato chips, as well as supporting facilities such as warehouses for finished products and raw materials.

With an investment of about 500 million yuan (around 76.5 million U.S. dollars), the project is expected to be formally put into production in September 2022, with an estimated annual capacity of 25,000 tonnes.

According to PepsiCo, the location of the new plant was chosen primarily due to the resource accumulation brought by industrial clusters in Foshan, as well as the fast and efficient transportation network and the convenient and orderly business environment in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

In recent years, PepsiCo has continued to expand its investment in China. At present, it has seven food factories, six potato planting demonstration farms and 18 cooperative farms in China. Enditem
