WUHAN, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 400 A-level scenic spots in central China's Hubei Province received more than 73 million tourists in a five-month promotional activity to revive the tourism sector following the COVID-19 epidemic.
More than 22 percent of the tourists were from other provincial-level regions of China, according to the provincial department of culture and tourism.
The activity, which started on Aug. 8 and ends on December 31, offers free admission to 390 scenic spots in the province.
Consumption vouchers were issued to boost consumption in the cultural and tourism sector in several cities, including the provincial capital Wuhan.
From Aug. 8 to Dec. 30, a total of 337 sites saw tourist numbers reach or exceed levels during the same period last year, the department said.
Travel agencies in Hubei have arranged 16,242 tour groups with more than 100 members each and received nearly 17.2 million tourists for group tours, some 10 million more than the number received during the same period last year.
Thanks to the tourism recovery, the hotel and restaurant sectors have also rebounded. To date, 355 star hotels in Hubei have reopened, accounting for 94.7 percent of the province's total, according to the department. Enditem
