BEIJING, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.
TELESCOPE FOR GLOBAL SERVICE
China's Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), the world's largest single-dish radio telescope, will be available for global service from April 1.
The National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the operator of the telescope, confirmed Monday that scientists across the world can make online appointments for using the device for observation from April 1. An allotted timetable will be available by Aug. 1.
COVID-19 VACCINATION
China's State Council joint prevention and control mechanism against COVID-19 has ordered the strict inspection of vaccine quality, safety and smooth cold-chain transportation, as well as timely and accurate delivery of vaccines, as the country's first self-developed vaccine got market approval with the vaccination campaign to be carried out nationwide gradually.
The mechanism has also emphasized the importance of providing medical support and service. It especially applies to timely treatment and reporting of adverse reactions during the vaccination drive.
NEW MEMBER FOR TOP ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS
The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Chinese Academy of Engineering, the country's top academic institutions, have launched programs to select new members this year.
The CAS plans to enroll up to 73 new members, including seven from the emerging, interdisciplinary subjects and mathematics, and six from the national defense and security areas, according to the CAS website Monday. Enditem
