SHIJIAZHUANG, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- China's benchmark power coal price rose slightly during the past week.

The Bohai-Rim Steam-Coal Price Index (BSPI), a gauge of coal prices in north China's major ports, stood at 593 yuan (about 91.86 U.S. dollars) per tonne Wednesday, a rise of 8 yuan week on week, according to Qinhuangdao Ocean Shipping Coal Trading Market Co. Ltd.

In this period, the Bohai Rim steam coal market has been strong. The demand for power generation continued to be high due to the double rise of residential and industrial power consumption.

The bad weather led to the shortage of external power and clean energy power generation, which made it difficult to meet the peak power supply in some areas.

Released by the Qinhuangdao Ocean Shipping Coal Trading Market Co. Ltd. every Wednesday, the BSPI is a leading indicator of China's coal prices. Enditem
