AMMAN, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Sunday condemned the recent Israeli excavations near the Buraq Wall, known as the Western Wall in Israel, as its latest violation against Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem.

The wall is part of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, said Daifallah Fayez, spokesman of Jordan's Foreign Ministry, adding Jordan rejects all Israeli unilateral actions in occupied East Jerusalem, the Old City and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

These provocations are in violation of international law, he noted.

The managing and maintenance work at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, including its walls and gates, is supervised by the Jordan-run Jerusalem Islamic Awqaf under international law as well as the legal and historical status quo, according to Fayez.

The Jordanian spokesman called on Israel to stop its violations and provocations and respect the Old City's legal and historical status quo. Enditem
