JINAN, China, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng announced on Wednesday that it received confirmation of its new name "Shandong Taishan" from the Chinese Football Association (CFA).

On Monday, the club said that its application for the new name had been rejected, and that they would apply again in line with all requirements.

Sources said the reason was that the club's new investor had had a subsidiary company with "Taishan" in its name. However, this was dropped on Monday, according to China's National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System.

Taishan, or Tai mountain, is an iconic landmark in Shandong province and one the most famous mountains on north China plain.

The CFA unveiled a series of policies in December 2020 requiring all Chinese professional football clubs to remove corporate titles in their club names before the 2021 season.

Founded on December 2, 1993, Shandong Taishan is the first professional football club in China's eastern province of Shandong and also one of the first professional clubs in Chinese football history. The club had several different investors before state-owned energy firm Luneng took the reins in 1998. Enditem
