Guangdong beats Beijing Royal Fighters in CBA

ZHUJI, China, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Marshon Brooks scored a game-high 29 points as the Guangdong Southern Tigers defeated the Beijing Royal Fighters 127-109 in the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Friday.

Sonny Weems added 26 for Guangdong. Joseph Yang had 20 points and Yu Changdong contributed 17 for Beijing.

Yu scored 12 points including two 3-pointers in the first quarter to gift Beijing a 35-32 lead into the second. Weems shined to score 10 points and Du Runwang added two 3-pointers to help Guangdong to take a 67-60 lead at halftime.

Guangdong kept their advantage well after the break but coach Du Feng was sent off just before the end of the quarter. Guangdong led 99-91 into the last quarter and Weems inspired the defending champions to an 8-0 spurt to clinch the victory.

"We deserved the win, we miss our coach in the last quarter but the team stayed together and continued to do the job," Guangdong's assistant coach Gintaras Krapikas said after the game. Enditem
